Ruzizi III Energy Limited was honored to welcome Ms. Tiffany Sadler, the UK Special Envoy to the Great Lakes, on 7 May 2025, alongside key development partners from DR Congo and Rwanda, to a high-level meeting focused on the Ruzizi III Regional Hydropower Project.

The meeting underscored the significance of the Ruzizi III Project, a transformative tri-national initiative between Burundi, DR Congo, and Rwanda, as the first major shared infrastructure investment in over 30 years among the three countries. Once operational, the Project will provide clean, reliable power to over 30 million people across the Great Lakes region, while promoting regional energy access, sustainability, and long-term peace and cooperation.

The discussion also highlighted the important role of British International Investment (BII), a key stakeholder in the Project, contributing both as a lender and investor to support the successful delivery of this impactful regional initiative.

Ruzizi III Energy Limited (REL) is a special purpose vehicle that has been established and registered in Rwanda to develop the Ruzizi III Regional Hydroelectric project (Project). It is a key development project and will be one of the largest infrastructure projects in the region comprising Rwanda, Burundi, and eastern DR Congo. It is the first privately financed project in sub-Saharan Africa that will utilise a common regional water resource to generate power that will be shared equally between three countries.
