Ruzizi III Energy Limited (REL) is pleased to announce the public disclosure of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) report for the 206 MW Ruzizi III Regional Hydroelectric Plant (the Project). The report includes the ESIA Non-Technical Summary, the ESIA Main Report, the Resettlement Action Plan, and the Stakeholder Engagement Plan, which are now available for public access.

As one of the largest infrastructure projects in the region, spanning the Republic of Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Republic of Rwanda the Project is a significant step towards sustainable regional development. The Project will benefit an estimated population of 30 million people, 54% of whom are living under the poverty line and averaging a 24% electricity access rate.

The disclosed ESIA report is provided below. We welcome public comments and feedback, which can be submitted via email to ESIA@ruzizienergy.com or physically at local Administrative Offices in Burundi at Rugombo Commune and Cibitoke Province Headquarters, in DRC  at the Headquarters of Groupement Kamanyola and Karhongo, South Kivu Province, and in Rwanda at the Headquarters of Bugarama and Nzahaha Sectors, Rusizi District.

Ruzizi III Energy Limited (REL) is a special purpose vehicle that has been established and registered in Rwanda to develop the Ruzizi III Regional Hydroelectric project (Project). It is a key development project and will be one of the largest infrastructure projects in the region comprising Rwanda, Burundi, and eastern DR Congo. It is the first privately financed project in sub-Saharan Africa that will utilise a common regional water resource to generate power that will be shared equally between three countries.
