As part of the International Womenโ€™s Day (IWD) celebrated on 8 March every year, Ruzizi III Energy Limited (REL) staff in Rwanda visited the maternity ward at Muhima Hospital to share joy, support, and encouragement with new mothers.

This special initiative aligns with RELโ€™s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts and serves as a heartfelt tribute to the strength, resilience, and love of women who bring life into the world.

RELโ€™s team engaged with the mothers, distributed essential care packages, and reaffirmed RELโ€™s commitment to empowering women in all aspects of the project.

As the World Celebrated the IWD2025 with the theme #AccelerateAction, REL continuously ensures that it enhances the theme by breaking barriers and ensuring gender equality through transforming vision into reality- today, not tomorrow. At REL, it is not just developing hydropower, it is driving sustainable progress and championing gender equality. REL recognizes that though women in renewable energy may be few, their impact is driving real changes. By leading with expertise and purpose, advocating for inclusion and supporting one another, women strengthen both the energy industry and communities.

Ruzizi III Energy Limited (REL) is a special purpose vehicle that has been established and registered in Rwanda to develop the Ruzizi III Regional Hydroelectric project (Project). It is a key development project and will be one of the largest infrastructure projects in the region comprising Rwanda, Burundi, and eastern DR Congo. It is the first privately financed project in sub-Saharan Africa that will utilise a common regional water resource to generate power that will be shared equally between three countries.
